CURIO: Beyond the Frame
About CURIO

CURIO, a biennial art fundraiser showcase organised by Rainbow Centre in celebration of youth, creativity and inclusion is back! Presented by UOL, this year’s edition, CURIO: Beyond the Frame, showcases over 45 unique artworks created by 13 youths with disabilities.
CURIO is inspired by the word curiosity, a word that encourages us to truly look beyond the labels and stereotypes of ‘persons with disabilities’ and get to know them as unique individuals with stories and personalities. Our young artists between 14 to 19 years old are part of RC’s talent art development. Through training, mentorship and opportunities to exhibit their work, they develop their voices while exploring a range of visual art mediums and advocacy opportunities.
Change often begins with curiosity. In a world where we are quick to form impressions, discover our community at Rainbow Centre and how you can help shape a future where inclusion is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for all!
*We will officially be opening our doors to the public on 26 July (Sunday), 12pm–4pm.

Your support also advances research-driven practices and scholarships to develop passionate staff in the sector. More details below:

Support low-resource families to access subsidies, assistive technology and crisis care
A growing area of need as the cost of living rises, 40% of our families require financial assistance across programme and transport fees, access to assistive technology and crisis support.

Run programmes to reduce social isolation and reduce caregiver stress
To support families and our young adults, we run vital services like special student care services and adult programmes to ensure continuity of care and prevent social isolation.

Invest in innovative solutions to address service gaps and enhance meaningful engagement
We encourage innovation and permeate good evidence-based practices with the set up of RC Seed Grant, which is awarded to research study projects by RC staff to improve our collective practice.

Panel Discussion: Beyond the Frame – How Can the Arts Build More Inclusive Lives?

1 Aug (Sat), 1pm (60 mins) | Free
What role can the arts play in fostering belonging, self-expression and meaningful participation for persons with disabilities?
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation featuring artists, educators, caregivers, community practitioners and young creatives as they explore how the arts can open doors to connection, confidence and inclusion.
Drawing from lived experiences and professional practice, the panel will share how creative expression has empowered persons with disabilities to discover their strengths, build relationships, develop new skills and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Hear from Rainbow Centre educators and artists, inclusion partner Superhero Me, caregivers, and a student artist as they reflect on the transformative impact of the arts across different stages of life.
As we conclude our art fundraiser showcase, this discussion will also challenge us to rethink accessibility and inclusion within Singapore’s creative landscape. How can artists, cultural institutions, businesses and community partners move beyond representation towards genuine participation and co-creation? What does it take to create arts experiences where everyone can contribute, belong and thrive?
Whether you are an artist, educator, caregiver, policymaker, community leader or advocate, join us as we explore how the arts can be a powerful catalyst for social change—shaping a society that values diverse voices, celebrates different ways of seeing the world, and enables everyone to live a good life.

With a background in graphic design and visual communication, she enjoys exploring a wide range of artistic forms and techniques. As an art trainer, Cassandra finds great joy in journeying with her students as they learn, grow and discover more about themselves through the process of artmaking. She believes that art plays an important role in supporting their holistic development.
WONG INTISAAR is a 15-year-old talented young lady who is part of Rainbow Centre’s Talent Art programme. Her passion for art shines through in the way she speaks about her creative process and the thought behind each piece. With a keen eye for detail, she carefully brings her ideas to life through vibrant colours and intricate elements, creating artworks that are both expressive and distinctive.
PREMA SRI ANURATHA is the mother of one of our presenting student artists, Shaarvin (15). She believes that art allows him to express thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to put into words, including how he feels through his use of colours. She hopes society will look beyond colours and textures to see the emotions, resilience, and joy reflected in each artwork, and to recognise and celebrate the voices and achievements of persons with disabilities.
MARVIN TANG is Lead Producer at Superhero Me, having overseen collaborations like No Man is an Island, GROW, Homerun, The Humpback Whale and Universe of Feelings. He holds the all-important task of documenting Superhero Me’s work through photography. As an artist, his works have been exhibited internationally. He is also an adjunct lecturer at NTU School of Art, Design and Media as well as Lasalle College of the Arts.
All donations towards CURIO programmes are 250% tax deductible and support our vital work at Rainbow Centre.
Meet Some of Our Artists
Our budding artists are from Rainbow Centre’s Artability programme for students 10–18 years old who grow their visual art styles through structured training and opportunities. They are exposed to a variety of art mediums, techniques, and advocacy opportunities to partake in the local art scene, through learning journeys or exchanges with professional artists or trainers. These allow them to nurture the arts practice and gain confidence in communicating their ideas.
